Trauma Informed Yoga

.At EMPOWER bodyconneX, we want to share meaningful and current information
that you can use for your own informed practice, choosing what is relative to your individual needs.
What brings it together ?
Connections; Physical, Emotional, Awareness to self.
Seeking and sharing support from others is our connection to community.
Allana Plaunt, certified yoga practitioner, specializing in Trauma Informed Yoga
is going to share her thoughts, new findings on this Trauma informed practice as
intervention and complimentary modality to learn new skills and understanding of self.
Many, if not most people have suffered and/or are suffering from some form of trauma. Trauma can affect beings physically and/or emotionally, as the body can hold and remember our experiences whether our conscious mind does or not.
Traumas lurk in the guise of numbness, pain, restriction, tightness, recoil reflex and sometimes complacency and fear.

Allana Plaunt,
Trauma Informed yoga Practitioner
As a Trauma Informed practitioner Allana's hope is to use this specialized practice to help heal the wounds of trauma, inviting a return to the body in our own time within a safe space.  This safe space is created through sensitive language, being conscious of poses that may evoke feelings of fear or deep discomfort and drawing our attention inward to the sensations, or lack of sensations, that we are experiencing, inviting us on a healing journey.
The journey is one of reclaiming one’s freedom in movement, emotion, and connection.  We learn to trust our bodies again by creating a new, more loving, positive relationship with it, forming new memories for our body to store.
The somatic approach to trauma informed yoga isn’t just for those who have experienced trauma however,
it is helpful and beneficial for any of us who live with stress, anxiety or chronic pain.
It is also great for anyone who wants to get to know more about how the body and the mind work together and
perhaps even discover the root of some perpetual behaviours,
offering a sense of grounding, centering and growth.

Trauma informed yoga is not a replacement for medical treatment. It is a specialized, informed practice to guide the participant through cuing and movement, to explore emotional and physical self and awareness in a safe place.
Research supports client/patient benefits when participating in a Trauma Informed Yoga Practice as a complimentary treatment to PTSD, mental health and other trauma related issues for adults and children.
